Still can't break the chain of coming to school more than 5 minutes late.

Watched Protege in a spontaneous moment where I bumped into Cheryl who was on her way to watch it.

This is Zhang JingZhu, and she was brilliant in the show.

This child is so cute you can't help but be sad for the plight her family is in.

Andy Lau, as a drug lord who treats the trade solely as business.

And the Protege of the movie-- Daniel Wu's pout.

And after watching the film plus knowing my next week is paaccckeed, my sea ain't so calm no more.

Introducing the Narcissistic and the Cute and the Names.

This is Baby Morgan. Ain't he cute?

Moi wore a nice dressy dress for visiting this year. Think I look really nice, but when it gets humid, tends to sweat underneath dress a lot because lining of dress is really thick!!

Which, yes, you people will think it's disgusting. (But nobody can tell, because I look nice and it renders me sweating in such a pretty frock unthinkable to everyone.)

One interesting thing this year was the new baby in my nanny's house. There's this little girl who's only 8 months old prancing about the living room. On chatting with her grandmother, I found out that her name is Venezia Jean ____(blanck denote surname).

Venezia? Ain't that the gelato ice cream brand in Singapore?

Hmm, maybe her parents want her to marry a guy called Bravassimo when she grows up. Or they want an italian-english flavoured name. Or they are acting chim. Or they really really really like the italian city or the ice cream.

Or worse, they ride on the trend where babies are named after places that they were conceived.

The latter is most likely I guess. I won't want to guess further than that. The first name is already a mystery, and the middle name is just gonna make it more confusing.

I really wonder why so many kids have middle names nowadays. I used to have a classmate who had a middle name and everyone was fascinated by it. Now, you have kids going by the names of Sarah Michelle Cheong, or Amanda Mary Tan. Might as well have a masterpiece and name the kid Mona Lisa Wong.

I don't understand what the middle name signify. Maybe if it is for religious purposes it's still acceptable. But if it looks like it's there just to make the poor kid spend time writing his name when the rest of the children have already started on questions on the worksheet, then I think
the parents ought to be ashamed of themselves.

I wanna share a middle name joke now! Digression!

Chandler Bing, of tv show F.r.i.e.n.d.s, once said in an episode, "Handle is my middle name. In fact, it is the middle of my first name!"

Ok, on print, it isn't as funny as when he said it for the first time. Okay, I'm gonna be mean and stop my post here.

Happy Chinese New Year everyone!

Blind Followers and Hard Catchers

The week that preceeded the Chinese New Year was what I call the faux-celebrations week. Why, valentine's day was smack in the middle of that week too!

The week could be best described as a dreamy, mock-relaxed week. You think that the holidays are coming and you don't feel like doing your work. But then, you realise to your horror, you have no time so that week is a crucial week. So you kind of cheat yourself in the beginning by thinking that it's a holiday. Then you feel cheated by yourself because you still have to work damn hard even though it's a holiday. So you don't know to blame yourself or the calendar, and plus it's Valentine's day and it's the same barren situation year after year. So in the end, alamak, you feel that it's neither here nor there.

Or it may just be me.

Anyway, I just had my reunion dinner not so long ago, like 6 hours ago, with my extended family in Punggol. As usual, I just put my butt on the couch, stare at the googlebox when I'm done eating. My family seldom indulge in mindless chit chatting, unless absolute silence ensues, but the whole Tan clan had their attention on a new addition to the family this new year. Baby Morgan had the older folks' maternal instincts kicked in. Everyone wanted a piece of the action.

Ahh, it dawned on me that all the kids in my generation are grown up, except for Baby Morgan. We're old, and we're not fun anymore. The sound of a kid's laughter and tears can really amplify the atmosphere of the festivities. Without kids, there'll be awkward silence, or filler conversations and pretending to look busy moments. Maybe it's just my family, as we only see each other once or twice a year. Even though last year I saw my uncles quite a lot of times in the hospital while visiting Ah Ma, reunion dinner was still a routine this year.

To divert to a different topic because this is just an oh-so-sad-but-true fact, I went to the cinema to watch "JUST FOLLOW LAW" with my lil' sister, Charlene and Cheryl after the dinner. It's the new movie by Jack Neo and stars Fann Wong and Gurmit Singh.

Well, I wanted to watch it because it was a Jack Neo movie. Even though I know of many many people who refuse to watch his movies because it's too low standard for them (apparently), I love to watch his shows because you can gurantee there's gonna be split-in-your-sides funny moments.

Well, for this show, it was no exception. However, like a typical Jack Neo movie, the plot is predictable and it was crammed full of product placements- which irritated the hell out of me. The worst thing was, it wasn't subtle product placements, it was SHAMELESS promotion! Anyone can know who the sponsors of the movie were immediately after the show. Aiyoh, marketing need to be so intense one meh?

We have Bella skincare products that Fann Wong has to use in the movie, Bee Cheng Hiang Bak Kua that Fann Wong ate, New Moon abalone that Fann Wong bought. Ta buleh Tahan!!

NOTE:This blogger feels that movies should not devalue themselves by selling large chunks of screentime to sponsors. Make us consumers feel like idiots because we are paying Yusof Ishaks to look at 2 hour long advertisments.

Do we look that kam gong?

Other than that irritant, the story was just okay. Jack Neo takes not-so-subtle jabs at the government and issues that happened, including the James Gomaz saga, the LTA, URA, MRT and everything and anything that he can play around in this story of experiencing life in a different person's shoe. It's kinda like The Prince and The Pauper in a corporate setting. The last act of the movie sort of became a deux ex machina, and it felt that the producers have ran out of ideas.

However, the one to steal the show would be the Ah Jie of Caldecott Hill, Fann Wong. Watch the ice queen persona of Fann Wong melt into nothingness in just a few seconds after the soul-switching experience. Watch her spew words like "Bitch" or hokkien expletives with relative ease. Watch in horror as she scratches herself and "bio" pretty babes in bikinis.

In other words, watch her for what you've never seen before.

But still, my favourite character was a security guard called Muthu. Soooo CUTE! Sadly, the offical movie website does not have stills of him in the movie. He was so funny in the show! He is the epitome of the psyche of a civil servant.

Oh goodness! It's 4.34 am! I need to sleep now because my eye bags feel like they weigh a tonne! (so anti climax la, but no choice)

Happy Piggin' people!

A Book for Thought

Charlene lent me the book "My Sister's Keeper" on Sunday. I got stuck reading the book, and couldn't put it down. And towards the end of the book, I really wanted to cry because the book could really evoke such a major emotional response even though I'm in a Lecture Theater with 50 other people. I looked around the Lecture Theatre. I looked at Jingting who is striking her pen every few seconds on the table. I look at Zi Xin, who is writing down what the lecturer is talking about. I look at the person in front of me instant messaging on her computer. I look down at the book. And I still couldn't help but want to cry.

Maybe it was the way things turn out. Maybe, after a marathon 3 days spent on finishing the book, I got so attached to the character, I can't bear the finish. Or maybe, just maybe, I'm only human.

Pressure Rice Cooker

I don't even know how to begin this post (But I just did) because this week was hectic, hectic, hectic. So much so that I'm so grateful to be just sitting on this chair and relaxing, staring at the millions of pixels on my screen without using my brainpower, and enjoying every keystroke i type. Okay, it kind of sound like a psychotic fetish.

Ahh~

That's my "Yay, I'm sitting here and enjoying every moment and hoping it doesn't go away so soon because I have to get back to studying tomorrow" sigh.

Ahhh~

And that's my follow up sigh, the "I think I think too much that I'm freaking myself out and Ooh, keystrokes, lovely keystrokes. Thoroughly enjoying pressing each key on the keyboard." sigh.

Ew.

Well, this would be my left brain telling me I'm not supposed to feel that way about computers so I should be disgusted with myself, utterly utterly disgusted.

STOP.

And... that would be... the Britney Spears song.

Alright, I shall stop analysing sighs, and start proper.

Monday started with monday blues, but I looked forward to LOVE WRECK, Felicia and my radio show on 3 Girls and a Guy on Radio Fusion, NTU's very own radio station. Radio is fun, just that sometimes, I do get tongue-tied and self conscious. Feli has been a great partner, filling in all the gaps that I leave, even though she occasionally cuts me off ( unintentionally...heehee...)

The rest of the week went like clockwork- study, assignments, meetings. Had to hand in 3 assignments this week and had 3 tests too. SOO glad it's friday and it's over. I still remember Fizza and I being so stressed out on Thursday that we decided to talk in some Indian accent just to relax and unwind.

And that accent took quite long to wear off because we were so used to it, we even talked to other people in it.

The things we'll do not to go mad.

Speaking of mad, Anna Nicole Smith died. Okay, she wasn't mad. She was very depressed. Her 20-year-old son passed away a few months ago at the same time her baby was born. She got really affected by that loss, and today, she's gone. I couldn't have known her pain and anguish, but I feel sad that she couldn't pick herself up from depression for her newborn baby. It's a very sad and tragic event.

Okay.

I couldn't join training yesterday because I had to record my programme ID for my show that evening and it took too long. Heard it was a good and fruitful training. Secretly wish I could have been there, but had to also think of the tests on friday.

I'm a full time student, I have to remind myself. I shall equip myself with the best skills I can get, because a hobby does not go far- a career touches the sky.

Today's friday, and I finished up the programme ID for the show. It's my first time using complicated software to create a trailer (of sorts) and even though it meant having to hear the same thing over and over and over again, and doing it on your own, I could really feel a sense of independence and fulfilment when I hear the finished product. It's a warm fuzzy feeling that makes you smile from ear to ear (kinda like love, but you're dealing with something tangible). It's a marker telling me I'm on the right path.

Alright, I shall enjoy the rest of this night resting and snoring as loud as I can to release all the pent- up stress that hasn't been released and they ought to be released.

To cut things short, bye!

Introducing the Toyota Rush, a hybrid between Toyota and Daihatsu.

"The Toyota Rush is developed to be a tough and casual sport-utility wagon and is meant to merge the enjoyment and drivability of an SUV, the ease-of-use and convenience of a compact hatchback and the fun and functionality of a small station wagon."
-carmart.com

Looks and feel like some bling-bling car to me though.

Random thoughts and scrambled eggs.

1. I can dream even while snoozing in the library for 5 minutes. Can you imagine how stressed out i am over skool?

2. I would very much like to go to Korea (South of course) for Summer Studies, and am waiting patiently for the green light from parents. Cross me fingers, and Feli, cross yours to help me too!

3. Bought my ching chong Chinese New Year clothes. All 5 of them, with pants, skirt, dress, tops in the mix. Chalked up $100 plus for these. But guess it's worth it because I hardly buy anything else during rest of the year.

4. Interviews and interviews and interviews.

5. Projects projects projects.

6. DJ-ing. I get to do the controls next time round! Yay!

7. ZONK_ED OUT.
